Racket restringing, as the name suggests, is the process of removing old, snapped or worn out strings from a racket and putting in new strings. This is done using a Racket stringing machine.
How often should you restring your racket?
Every time the strings make contact with the ball, the friction between the 2 objects wears both objects down progressively. Thus the more one plays, the more the strings on the racket get worn out and the more frequent you’ll be required to change them.
When should you restring?
- Restring when you feel reduction in power and control
- Restring on a regular if you play on a regular
- Restring after a specific number of hours of play
- Have a restringing routine/schedule
- Restring if the strings move constantly on impact
What is the cost of restringing?
As with everything nowadays, the price depends on the quality of the product. Try not to automatically rush for the cheapest option because in the long run, it will cost you more.
The price of new strings ranges from 800 Kes to over 4,000 Kes. As a rule of thumb, the pricier the string the more durable it will be. The price also depends on the brand. A well-known popular brand like wilson or Solinco will generally be more expensive than an unknown brand.
If you have your own strings, the cost of labour for restringing will be 1,000 Kes for the manual stringing machine and 2,000 Kes for the digital stringing machine.
The difference between the 2 machines is the accuracy of the string tension. The digital machine is electronic thus the precision is better.
